Cozy Ideas from the Danville Library this Holiday Season

As the weather grows brisk and the days become shorter, sometimes, you just want to stay inside with a good book, movie or both! The Danville Library has you covered! Visit the Contra Costa County Library website and search for your favorite book, author or film through our online catalog (search box in upper right hand corner). You may also explore other titles or new authors with themed staff booklists available to browse online. If it’s not available at the Danville Library, you may place a hold on a title and have it sent to the Danville Library for pickup. We’ll notify you when it’s ready! Downloadable audio and ebooks are also available 24 hours a day through Overdrive and the Libby app.

You may also want to pop some popcorn for a movie night in! If the DVD you’re looking for isn’t available just yet, be sure to checkout the library’s Kanopy streaming film service. With a full access library card, users can stream independent, classic, international and documentary films on their device. We also have Kanopy for Kids with a collection of movies and shows appropriate for children ages 2-8. If young learners in the family are craving something more interactive, ABCmouse also offers interactive books, games, puzzles and other activities through their award-winning online curriculum for children ages 2-8 with your library card.

Finally, the Danville Library has some special events to help kick-off the winter season and this magical time of year!

Wednesday, December 15, from 6:30-7:15

Registration Required

Read the book; do the STEAM project with the Arts Enrichment Book Club! This month our topic is slime! We will have a selection of books with slimy topics that children can choose from, including among others Fuzzy Mud by Louis Sachar (grades 5 and up), Stink and the Attack of the Slime Mold by Megan McDonald, and Frankenslime by Joy Keller. Books will be available to check out at the front desk of the Danville Library beginning November 15.

On December 15 our local slime guru will tell us about slime and lead us in a holiday slime creation session. Some slime supplies (though you’ll need to provide a small bottle of glue) will be available for registrants at the Danville Library beginning December 9. Register online and receive information on how to access the Zoom event on the day before the program. Closed captioning will be provided for this program.
