Each moment is a chance to make a beautiful new memory in your life.
December – preparing for holiday celebrations, closing out another year. I can’t help but reflect on what has changed: New nieces with 3 nephews marrying this year; babies to celebrate as our two daughters have given birth to little girls. I am especially reminded of how precious life is as I survived jellyfish stings in Mexico. I have no idea what 2024 will bring, but I will value this word of advice:
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.”-Ferris Bueller
What I have learned in this year, 2023, is that I can’t predict what challenges or opportunities the year will bring. However, I have come closer to navigating my own choices. It’s ok to say no without feeling guilty. I have also given myself permission to try things with the goal of self improvement. Though some choices can be spontaneous, if I can develop a plan, I like the outcome much more. There is a balance between planning to keep traditions alive while being flexible to the changes of the past year.
As the holidays approach you may be finding that you have to compromise certain traditions to welcome new ones. With adult children in our lives, I need to share the holidays as my children navigate their family commitments with in-laws and family demands. How can I support them while still maintaining what I love? My recommendation is to have an early discussion to respect their needs, and for them to understand your needs. After all, each day is a blessing. Look for those moments of opportunities to make a blessing sparkle.
I would like to end this year with one more thought:
“A champion is defined not by their wins, but how well they can recover when they fall.”-Serena Williams
