Creating Special Small Gatherings

With the end of the year barreling towards us and the reality of the global pandemic stretching so much longer than we hoped, we’ve all had to reimagine the holiday season, not to mention everything else. While our gatherings may be smaller and more intimate this year, there is no reason for them to be any less meaningful. If you’re still sorting out Christmas and Hanukkah plans, here are a few ways the CHID team creates special moments even for smaller sized gatherings.

A thoughtful tablescape

Enjoy the ritual of setting a thoughtful and beautiful table to enjoy a meal and the company of loved ones. Whether we’re entertaining 2 or 20, we bring out our most treasured dish- and drinkware and turn to nature to find the finishing touches. We love stepping outside to snip evergreen tips to tuck into a twine wrapped linen napkin for each place setting. A long branch of winter berries foraged on a morning hike, when leaned in a heavy recycled glass jar, serves as a special, seasonal centerpiece.

The power of scent

Seek out local candle makers who work with essential oils to infuse candles with beautiful, natural scents that are as therapeutic as they are deliciously seasonal. Lavender is known to reduce stress — something everyone will benefit from this year.

Mood lighting

Take advantage of the dimmer switch and layered light to cast a beautiful glow. The best, most flattering and comfort-inducing lighting fills a space from a mix of heights. We love our floor and table lamps, wall sconces, and chandeliers turned down low for that glowy light that softens shadows.

Cozy Up

Natural, cozy textiles take us from an indulgent meal through nap time to a healthy conversation or reminiscing with loved ones. Bring in a basket filled with cashmere throws to encourage coziness and comfort.
