Embracing Change, Empowerment

Through a Growth Mindset

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” – Alan Watts

Yes – I am going to state the obvious – life is full of change. Some change is anticipated and we have time to embrace the sun and celebrate or to prepare for the storm. But too often change can be unexpected or not what we anticipated. For instance, take the person who has invested in a 30 year career and now counts the months, weeks and days until retirement. Secured financially, life seems good. But six months later it occurs to the retiree what has been left on the table – friends, the career title, daily routines…respect, meaning, and to some degree – a lifelong passion.

As a transitional executive life coach, I was inspired to partner with a client who was in the midst of developing her college profile when she unexpectedly lost her beloved grandmother. Through her deep depression, drowning in grief, she took hold of her grandmother’s passions – her love of books and growth. In the client’s college essay she wrote, “I envisioned my grandmother in the lines I read. She empowered me in the words I wrote.” This client embraced change and used her grief to empower her academics and her college applications.

Change is an opportunity to rejoice in the dance. Change is meant to inspire and to strengthen our core of who we are and who we can be. We may not anticipate what we lost as our youngest packs for college or as we realize we need something more in our life. The choices we made years ago, like that perfect dress we wore in our twenties, may not fit anymore – or at least not highlight and bring out the best of you.

Change is an opportunity to review all your options – to utilize a growth mindset to know you have choices. What an exciting time to explore something new or pull out your original goals and recreate what makes you your best! Change will always be here. The quicker you embrace, the more powerful you will be!

If any of this resonates, we can talk. EYHLifeCoach partners with clients in their life transitions to relight the passions sometimes we put aside in our journey. Call or email today.
