Think of everyday as practice. If each day demands your best self, and you perform at your best, you will get your best.
What a great philosophy to start 2024! Imagine that every day you wake up knowing that you are going to be challenged and that you are expected to perform at your best. Athletes do this before any game. What keeps us from realizing that this philosophy can motivate us to make every day a new commitment for self improvement and in turn, through example, improvement of others?
The quote above is from Dr. Harry Edwards, a professor of mine when I attended UC Berkeley, Dr. Edwards lived and strived to change people’s perspective about themselves and their ability to change others. As a renowned sports psychologist and a consultant for the San Francisco 49ers, his philosophy towards athletes including people like Jerry Rice, provides a foundation and perspective to motivate the best in any person. Rice believes that you have to “Look the part, act the part, to be the part.” If you are not taking the time to present your best self, how is anyone else going to feel your full potential? Whether you are setting an example for your family, your work environment or for others you meet, take the time to reflect on the image you wish to project.
This image can be as basic as how you dress and present yourself to what you wear to go to the grocery store. My mother lectured me as a little girl to look and act your best. You don’t know who you may run into or who you may influence. If this used to be you and something has changed, maybe it’s time to carve your new path. If this is something you aspire to but are stuck, EYHLIFECoach can partner with you to figure out where and why you are stuck. 2024 can be your new beginning to rejuvenate the best of you. Happy New Year!
