Navigating Your Best Self, A Coaching Conversation

Just like that – November is upon us. The days are becoming shorter and the crispness of evenings are setting in. The tennis players and golfers are either shutting down the clubs earlier or teeing off and rallying later in the morning. As the Autumn season moves in and waves farewell to the summer warmth, I am reminded of the simple phrase, “Time waits for no one.” As I ponder these five words I am reminded of the goals that had been set as 2023 promised to be a more welcoming year than 2022. What I especially recall are the goals I set for myself. After all, the seasons are reflective of life’s carousel – around and around – both always vow to make another trip circling exactly to the starting position. In many ways, 2023 has been a great year – but that is because I chose to navigate my own journey. You may ask, “What do you mean by navigating your own journey?” I chose to set a plan of what I value and commit to driving my plan to reality. For instance, I discovered early in 2023 that I was no longer at my best weight. I could feel it. My body felt heavier. I was experiencing unusual heartburn and other pains. So…I hung at the front of my closet an outfit that fit me perfectly pre -Covid. I could not even zip it now. That outfit reminded me what is possible as I entered the closet each day. I evaluated a nourishing eating plan that included more fruit, salads and much less breads and desserts. I rode the peloton a little harder, continued to play tennis and meditated. Why meditate? Meditation helped me focus on each day and my goals. By early April, I returned back to my best weight, felt better about my body, and the dress fits perfect.

I achieved other markers too, navigating my journey that involved both business and personal choices. I won’t bore you with the details, but I will challenge you to reflect on your year.
