It is January 2022. And like January 2021, January 2020, January 2019… parking at the gym is impossible. Why? We all know the answer… New Year’s Resolutions. As a year-round tennis player, I have witnessed this pattern every year for as long as I have been a member of the gym. By February, parking becomes a little easier. When March rolls in, there are a multitude of parking spaces.
New Year’s resolutions are fabulous if we have a concrete plan and the support needed to achieve the desired goals. Unfortunately, most people, while with good intentions, choose to do this journey by themselves and without the needed structure and accountability to be successful.
We envision New Year’s resolutions as an opportunity to improve our lives – to create and achieve who we want to be. The resolutions can be anything from weight loss and becoming more fit, to new relationships or controlling finances. In reality, what we really want is more joy in our lives. This joy may mean recognizing what was fun and made us happy, finding love again, exploring a new career or just recognizing that we have the capability of being our best selves. What is needed to make 2022 impactful? How do you make this New Year’s resolution be a part of you? Foremost, how do you recognize that you are the one in the driver’s seat? You are the one in control. May I make a few suggestions for success in your goals for 2022?
First, define your goals and passions as completely as possible. If you aren’t sure what you may need to move forward to be your best self, maybe it is time to partner with a Life Coach to ignite your passions and opportunities. A certified life coach can empower you to define your passions and to organize your priorities.
Oftentimes, we set goals to please others. Recognize if these are valuable goals for you. When you have done that, it’s time to investigate the barriers that exist from making this positive change. What are the various limitations to keep you from achieving these goals?
In January, we take our first breath of the new year energized to achieve change. Then why do we fade from our personal goals back to the habits we do not love? For most people, the goal has not been thought out and broken into parts so that success is much more manageable. Another area that is critical is WHO is holding YOU ACCOUNTABLE to SUCCESS of your GOALS? Having a partner to navigate with you to achieve your aspirations and to recognize your successes can make the difference for a fulfilling 2022. A Life Coach partners with you to set up your smart goals. Your Coaching professional formulates with you Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound (S.M.A.R.T) goals that help ensure that the goals are attainable and can be achieved in a reasonable time frame.
